Photography is contagious!

It’s amazing!  When you start to really pour your heart into photography, others start to take notice.  I did notice that my friend Brian has really desired to learn more and get better at photography.  Recently, Brian went out and bought a nice camrea and we went in September back to one of my favorite places to shoot photos, the Duluth area.  

Brian also showed me a place that really was an amazing to just sit and take in the view.  It is just south of Superior, Wisconsin.  It’s called Pattison State Park.   You can follow the link to see a mapquest map of the area.   I didn’t know it, but it’s the 2nd largest drop of a waterfall east of the Mississippi River.  The first is of course, Niagara Falls.   The falls go into a nice gorge which empties into a nice valley.

On the day we went there, it was cloudy and raining.  It was amazing though when we were observing the gorge, there was a lot of mist rising out of the gorge.  What was amazing though, was seeing a lot of the mist rising on the open valley looking to the northwest.  It literally took my breath away.  I told Brian, “You know what would be most awesome?  If God allowed the clouds to open up and put rays down into the valley.”  It was amazing cause about 20 minutes later, the clouds broke and the sun made an appearance.  It didn’t give the rays into the valley, but it sure made the scene even more amazing! 

We then went down through the harbor of Duluth.  I didn’t bring my camera that night.  I know, duh!  I found myself kicking myself for not doing so, because there were 3 large ships that went out of the harbor that night.  it would have made some really neat pictures.  I even saw another person down there taking pictures too.  The word “DOH” comes to mind. 

We went to the Split rock lighthouse again.  Because of the rain and such, the pictures didn’t turn out as well as the previous time we were there.

The last stop on our journey was Gooseberry Falls State Park.  The falls were not as full as the previous time  we were there.  This time allowed me to be able to be less than a foot away from the falls and allowed for some close up shots of the falls.  It was amazing! 

If you ever get a chance to go, please do so.  This is a trip worth taking.  That area has a lot of history and a lot of things that are worth phototaking.

Photography

I don’t know how many of you really enjoy the art of photography.  I’ve been on the learning curve of this art form and have really begun to enjoy the technical aspect of taking photos.  For most, it is just a point and click event, but for others, we know there are more technical aspects of being able to make a picture “just right”.  

There also is the creative side of photography that I am learning more on how to expand my horizons on.  As an amateur, there is always a LARGE road for improvement, but I’m getting better at what I am doing and really enjoying the learning process that goes along with htis!

I hope that you enjoy the photos on my website, and for those of you who are friends with me on facebook, being able to view my 60+ photo albums on there (some photos on there are the everyday point and click kind.).

Welcome to my new blog

So, I updated my website.  With that, I also decided to get a new blog. 

Here I will log different items relating to photography, school, just different things relating to Steve’s life.
